Delivery Hero SE is a world-leading provider of online order and delivery services that supplies meals, food, and other everyday items. The company was founded in 2011 and has its headquarters in Berlin. Today, it operates as a menu-based delivery service in over 70 countries in Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. Delivery Hero generates nearly five million sales documents every single day, producing significant amounts of data that needs to be archived in an audit-proof manner and kept available in the long term.
The challenge
Delivery Hero was not the only company that faced the challenge of managing its growing data volume effectively and cost-efficiently. The operational SAP S/4HANA database was increasingly approaching its limits due to the rapid growth of business and transaction data. At the same time, the current on-premises archive incurred high operating and maintenance costs while offering only limited scalability.
The goal was to develop a forward-looking strategy to sustainably reduce the data volume and automate processes while meeting all compliance and audit requirements reliably. Kyano Outboard from SNP was the ideal solution to meet these needs. The solution reduces the SAP database size, slows down data growth, and enhances performance by eliminating time-consuming manual activities through automated archiving.
Since the successful implementation in January 2024, Delivery Hero have been accelerating, streamlining, and automating their archiving processes, making significant savings in ongoing operations.
The solution
Delivery Hero required a cost-efficient and scalable archiving architecture to manage daily sales documents with reference to SAP data. At the same time, the data volume in the operational SAP S/4HANA database had to be significantly reduced to improve the performance and lower operating costs sustainably. To accomplish this goal, the customer needed to implement an automated archiving strategy that is audit-proof and fully compliant.
SNP stood out thanks to their holistic data management approach based on Kyano Outboard. As part of this approach, Kyano Housekeeping was used to identify and delete redundant and obsolete technical data. The automated archiving of SD data was carried out based on defined rules. SNP also modernized the existing archive landscape and migrated it from an on-premises environment to a high-performance cloud storage solution using Kyano Outboard. To ensure optimal results, the project involved a structured preparation phase with specific testing and dry run simulations. This also included evaluating and optimizing the system response under peak load.
The result
The efficient data management resulted in significant added value in terms of business processes at Delivery Hero. The company reduced the data volume of their technical SAP tables and SD data by up to 90%. This reduced the size of the production systems by around 1.1 TB, resulting in significant cost savings.
Business-critical procedures such as processing invoice receipts in SAP VIM (Vendor Invoice Management) and settlements in daily business now run smoother and more securely thanks to automation. The new archiving solution also enables Delivery Hero to scale their international business activities going forward, laying the groundwork for continued growth.
