SAP S/4HANA establishes efficient processes in finance and maintenance logistics

In line with their slogan “Vorsprung durch Technik,” Audi AG are investing in state-of-the-art technology and IT architecture. Following SAP’s announcement that maintenance for older product versions will end, the focus is on SAP S/4HANA. With multiple projects in the pipeline, Audi AG implemented two simultaneously at the start of 2023, introducing SAP S/4HANA Finance to establish a central finance system and migrating to SAP S/4HANA in the area of maintenance logistics. Both projects ran quickly and securely thanks to SNP.

Two transformation projects, one partner

The Finance and Controlling department at Audi AG requires a comprehensive overview of the global company’s financial strength and cash flows at all times. To achieve this, they need a sustainable IT architecture. As part of the “1-finance” strategy, the plan was to completely rebuild the target system and migrate relevant data from the legacy systems. To avoid expensive interim solutions, Audi AG wanted to move all their plant maintenance processes (part of logistics and production) to SAP S/4HANA at the same time – integrated into the production template “Progress.”

As the logistics and finance systems have many interfaces and are closely linked with each other, a key requirement was to avoid risk during the data migration. Both projects needed to be coordinated by just one partner. Audi AG opted for SNP. Due to many years of collaboration with SNP in the area of application lifecycle management (ALM), they already recognized the added value of the software-based approach. By harnessing the flexible data migration approach for their greenfield system implementation, Audi AG ensured a fast, secure finance migration . At the same time, the conversion of their maintenance processes to SAP S/4HANA was completed smoothly. Both projects went live almost simultaneously at the start of 2023.

Challenging SAP S/4HANA migration ends in success

The move to SAP S/4HANA used a table-based migration approach to select the data from the existing systems. As the conversion coincided with the year-end closing, the migration was performed in parallel with the activities in the legacy system. In Financial Accounting, open items and balances were transferred using a time selection.

To perform this transfer and handle the increased project complexity it involved, the SNP team made the time-based selection using in-house software. Working closely with Audi AG, they overcame any unexpected challenges during the project thanks to effective collaboration, intensive knowledge sharing and mutual trust.

The SAP S/4HANA go-live in finance and maintenance logistics marked a major milestone for the group’s digital strategy. Audi AG is also planning further innovative projects in other areas, with some already underway – driving its comprehensive transformation program forward at high speed so that it can respond to future digital challenges.

Advantages of the SNP approach

  • Quick, flexible move to SAP S/4HANA due to SNP’s software and expertise.
  • Two complex projects in finance and logistics run almost simultaneously – with shorter durations and less effort involved in coordination.
  • Table-based selective data migration reduces the system downtime and ensures that day-to-day operations continue smoothly.
