Faster time to value for M&As at DuPont: SNP accelerates data migration with Kyano®

DuPont

SNP is a key partner to DuPont, supporting it on its 10-year transformation journey

Throughout its history, DuPont has reshaped its portfolio through mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures—each requiring complex data migration across diverse IT landscapes. Prior to 2017, migrations were largely manual, resulting in high cost, long timelines, and elevated risk—an approach that became unsustainable as deal complexity increased. To address this, DuPont partnered with SNP to industrialize and automate its data migration model, reducing effort, improving data quality, and accelerating transaction execution. This capability now underpins DuPont’s enterprise transformation, enabling faster separations and integrations while increasing portfolio agility. As a result, DuPont has evolved into a more focused, innovation-driven solutions provider.

Unique challenges associated with portfolio changes

In 2015, DuPont announced its merger with The Dow Chemical Company—one of the largest and most complex transactions in the industry. Given the scope and complexity, manual migration approaches were no longer viable. The objective was to seamlessly combine two global organizations while simultaneously enabling the separation into three independent companies.

This transformation introduced significant technical, process, and data challenges. Large-scale data extraction, mapping, and migration were mission-critical, with zero tolerance for error. Success required a step change in capability—ensuring data integrity, security, and accuracy while efficiently processing high volumes of data across hundreds of company codes spanning SAP and non-SAP systems.

A trusted data migration partner

Faced with the scale and complexity of the DowDuPont transaction, DuPont selected SNP as its data migration partner. SNP’s proven expertise in M&A transformations and leadership in selective SAP data migration made it uniquely positioned to support the initiative.

Following detailed requirements definition and roadmap alignment, the DowDuPont program launched—marking the beginning of our large-scale transformation journey and a strategic partnership that has now spanned over a decade.

At SAP Sapphire, DuPont and SNP showcased their successful transformation journey through a joint speaking session. Visitors also had the opportunity to connect with the teams at the SNP booth and learn more about the project and its business impact.

The Bluefield® selective data migration approach

By pursuing its proprietary Bluefield approach for selective data migration, SNP allowed DuPont to optimize its systems by only migrating the data (both historical and operating), processes, and customizations that were needed for the future organization DowDuPont. Aligning the systems of both companies in this way resulted in minimal disruption, which was key to business continuity. With Bluefield migration at the core

of the project, this formed the foundation for continuous agility, adaptability, and smart transformation.

Expert management of data complexity

Integrating the DuPont and Dow IT landscapes required precision, speed, and the ability to manage highly complex data scenarios at scale. SNP’s Kyano® platform and Bluefield approach were central to the transformation—enabling the carve-out, consolidation, and migration of data across 339 company codes, fully replacing legacy manual processes.

The program impacted approximately 2,500 plants and 100,000 users globally, with disruption minimized through a phased delivery approach of five go-lives over 36 months.

Kyano’s advanced capabilities supported seamless data handling across both SAP and non-SAP systems—critical to enabling consolidation of our SAP 4.6C landscape across the newly formed businesses.

Establishment of a repeatable playbook for M&As

Building on the success of the DowDuPont merger, DuPont—together with SNP—established a repeatable, systemized playbook for M&A transactions powered by the Kyano® platform. This model is anchored in three core outcomes: speed, cost efficiency, and data quality.

Over the past decade, both the technology and underlying data processes have been continuously refined, significantly reducing implementation timelines. A recent spin-off of comparable scale and complexity to DowDuPont was completed in just 12 months with a single go-live—demonstrating the power of this standardized approach.

The playbook leverages reusable logic and data relevancy rules to accelerate data extraction and migration, enabling faster deal execution and improved time to value. This has strengthened shareholder outcomes while supporting DuPont’s ongoing enterprise transformation.

Having moved beyond legacy challenges of manual processes, data inconsistency, and technical debt, DuPont is now positioned to execute complex portfolio changes with greater speed, precision, and reduced risk. In partnership with SNP, DuPont continues to evolve this playbook beyond M&A—extending its application to enterprise transformation programs that accelerate growth and strategic value realization.

Benefits of the repeatable playbook

  • Faster closure of M&A transactions
  • Big Bang approach with 1 go-live
  • Significant reduction in program costs
  • Greater flexibility and agility
  • Risk minimization
  • Higher user acceptance
  • Minimum business disruption
  • Fewer resources required

Well positioned for future M&A deals

By deploying the Kyano® platform, DuPont has optimized the migration, integration, and management of enterprise data as part of multiple M&A deals. The platform now forms an integral part of DuPont’s M&A strategy. Successful data projects in partnership with SNP have helped DuPont become a resilient organization, strengthening its competitiveness and creating lasting value across the markets it serves. Through operational excellence, it is prepared to overcome the challenges of the future and manage M&A deals with even greater expertise.
