INEOS Energy, a subsidiary of INEOS, is a producer and trader of oil, gas, LNG, and carbon credits. In 2023, they decided to upgrade their SAP ECC system to S/4HANA to take advantage of the platform’s enhanced capabilities and better support their evolving business needs. As part of the upgrade project, they also aimed to streamline and clean up their internal systems to ensure they were fit for the future.
Migrating from a legacy SAP ECC system to SAP S/4HANA presented INEOS Energy with both a technical challenge and a strategic inflection point. Years of mergers and acquisitions had left their existing system burdened with redundant data, outdated configurations, and a fragmented organizational structure. These complexities made it clear that a simple lift-and-shift approach wouldn’t suffice.
A major hurdle was the need to redesign the organizational structure to reflect current operations – no small task given the inconsistencies and legacy elements embedded in the ECC environment. Instead of replicating past inefficiencies, INEOS seized the opportunity to clean up and modernize their entire SAP landscape. This involved extensive data cleansing, configuration optimization, and alignment of systems with evolving business goals, all while laying the groundwork for improved agility and scalability in the future.
INEOS Energy embarked on a significant transformation initiative, implementing a new organizational structure, introducing profit centers, remapping their general ledger (GL) accounts, and adopting new joint venture structures. This complex landscape demanded a robust and flexible approach to data migration and financial processing.
To support this initiative, SNP’s Bluefield® approach was leveraged to enable a selective and accelerated transformation, minimizing downtime and risk. SNP carried out precise table-to-table migrations and eliminated redundant configurations using Kyano CrystalBridge, ensuring only relevant and optimized data structures were migrated.
As part of the strategy, Kyano CrystalBridge Shell Creator was deployed as the target system to guarantee clean data separation. Additionally, SNP’s Posting Engine was used to post financial items accurately in accordance with their newly defined document splitting rules. This was essential, given the changes to their financial reporting structure.
INEOS Energy successfully migrated to SAP S/4HANA using SNP’s Bluefield® approach, achieving a seamless transition while simultaneously optimizing their target system. This included a comprehensive remapping of GL accounts, the adoption of profit center reporting, and the cleanup of legacy data, leaving behind outdated and unnecessary datasets.
As a result, INEOS Energy experienced significantly improved financial reporting, with clearer insights and more streamlined processes. The project was delivered quickly and efficiently thanks to SNP’s automation capabilities and deep expertise.
Migrating to S/4HANA was a strategic decision for our business. We chose SNP again because of their proven tools, expert team, flexibility, and deep understanding of our systems. Their support enabled us to streamline operations and position ourselves for future growth.
