Arauco: Goodbye to SNP together with IBM

The Challenge

Arauco was looking to update its technology platform to continue its digitalisation. The main objective was to keep the company on a modern, up-to-date platform and to be able to take advantage of SAP's new functionalities and developments in S/4HANA.Arauco began its migration from ERP R3 to SAP S/4HANA with IBM, SNP's global partner. However, the process was very complex, Arauco's system had more than 18 years of history in their respective countries and the company did not need to have such a large volume of data in its new ERP. Faced with this difficulty, IBM, as a global partner, recommended SNP to carry out an accelerated and selective migration.

The Advantages

• The selective migration allowed Arauco to start its SAP S/4 HANA era on cloud infrastructure.
• It was possible to work on the last years of the company, discarding irrelevant information and focusing on consistent data previously selected by the client.
• The fast migration with proven, world class solutions such as Bluefield enabled significant cost savings for Arauco

The solution

In order to carry out this type of migration, Arauco had to look back into its history and perform a cleansing and selection of all of its history. This previous process was a major challenge during the project due to a total of almost 20 TB of information. At the same time, it was necessary to reimplement and integrate certain modules due to their incompatibility with S/4HANA and to adapt the Z developments of their previous ERP.Together with SNP's Bluefield approach, it was possible to migrate only the last two years of the Chilean company's history, achieving one of the client's major
requirements: not to pause Arauco's management for a long time. The project was
successfully completed on time and with a minimum of downtime. In the words of
Leandro San Miguel De Nobili, CIO of Arauco: "Without SNP and IBM it would not
have been feasible to carry out a migration with data as big as ours".
